Self-Portrait

I see a face young with aged eyes that have seen better days in dreams
With ears that have heard loud thoughts of self pity
Despite the noise I still see lips that smacked words of dignity
The same aged eyes have searched for paths that will lead these hands to grip a piece of reality
Even though this skin has been numb to hope driven only by self worth
I see in that face a pride that can’t be broken by destructive lies
In the middle sits a nose that spent years sniffing for a truth and has often been caught off guard by its tendency to smell awful
Still this heart has been driven to follow it for the chance to give
This mind a true memory of what can be consider life
I see a body firm and armored to defend against character attacks thrown at its dark tone
Hateful of this head of coiled hair holding tight the knowledge and wisdom of the infinite were the words heard by these ears
When I look in the mirror I never see what they want me to see
The facts of who I am don’t match up the stories they tell of me
And no matter how low they have pushed me I have climbed higher than where I was left
My self-portrait is made up of more than an image of a face
My self-portrait is the real vision of me standing out
